A little bit about Nishi….
Nishi Patel is a wife, mother, and artist at heart. She has a degree in Clinical Laboratory Scientist and is a Certified Montessori Teacher. She has been painting and drawing mostly abstract/nature themes since childhood and started writing poetry after losing her father to cancer. With plans for more poetry books, she writes about grief, mental health, life, and spirituality.
Her mission is to encourage people to seek help while grieving and bring more awareness to the self, the grieving process, and lessen the stigma.
When she is not writing or painting, Nishi enjoys time outdoors hiking and running, making memories with her family, and drinking a cup of coffee.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Transformation (2022 - 2024) is a collection of abstract art in acrylic, ink, pencil, and sand. This series confronts the emotions of loss and grief held in our bodies (bone, cells, and tissues). Each piece represents a nonlinear stage, honoring the process of grieving and finding joy again. Working in layers, Patel uses fluid acrylic, adding other mediums, to intuitively create shape, texture, and lines as she progresses deeper into the vibrations of an experienced moment. The result is a visual conversation that is effusive and ethereal. Patel hopes to encourage an active listening ear towards one's inner struggles and inspire connection that expands towards nature and a nurturing community.
